I shall start off by saying Durham brewery is an epic brewery. And Durham Redemption is an epic beer. It is a 10% Ruby Old Ale, brewed in Dec 2010. It is very ruby coloured, lovely clear (before I put the lovely sediment in) deep red. Smells of deep dark fruity, bit of booze (it was room temp) with an edge of cherry or wine. A big off white head.
Tastes gorgeous, those deep dark fruits again, like berries and raisins. Plus a lovely caramel flavour softened with the hefty alcohol which isn't that noticeable but adds a like warmth.
Actually one of the best beers I have ever had. If you see it, get a bottle. it shall not disappoint.
I remember drinking a couple of their beers 2 or 3 years ago (St. Cuthbert IPA and Benedictus, a barley wine) and being very impressed. Durham Brewery seem to specialise in these really potent beers with great complexity. I like the monastic theme running through their beers too. Temptation sounds amazing, I need to get a bottle for definite. They also do a 'white stout' which sounds intriguing!
ReplyDeletePs. I've sent you a pm on beerbloggersunite.
Aye the White Stout does sound good, apparently it is quite an old recipe as stout (according to the source) just meant a stronger ABV ale. It beats £20 for a bottle of the BrewDog Blonde Imperial Stout if it is any good.
ReplyDeleteI may be biased as Durham is where my university is but they do really good beer, Bombay 106 is really good, and Fallen Angel which is a bottle conditioned lager which erupts from the bottle in a big way!
